rescuing the marquise Reviews
Reviewed at Romantic HistoricalsRescuing the Marquise is an intriguing romance, a bit of a spy story set in the early days of the horrendous reign of Napoleon. Once Annabelle and Bartholomew were happily in love and it seemed would be announcing an engagement any day. Unfortunately, a misunderstanding tore apart one couple and a friend, then set each on far different paths than they might have otherwise enjoyed. Four years later they meet again, under very different circumstances. Years might have passed, events might have changed for them but the love has never been far from their hearts. In the midst of a dangerous mission, Bartholomew must walk a dangerous path between helping a just cause, and stopping a plot set in madness. His involvement will bring Annabelle into danger as well. Their only hope is each other.I’ve been noticing a change in Ms Darcy’s stories. The previous story, The Bluestocking and The Viscount, and this one have more depth to them, more of a back story to the quick romance. The characters feel more flushed out and realistic. Yes, they are still short stories, but I feel as if I’m getting much more of a story within… and that is what will keep me returning for more stories like this one.I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
It starts out good but it just wasn't the best. This one had a pretty complicated idea for the plot and there just wasn't any way to do it justice with such a short story.
